Ice Cream Social....

It’s time again for Suzy’s Annual Ice Cream Social.  Last year I couldn’t believe all the creativity the participants put forth in making this a fun event. It also gave me the final nudge to break down and buy my own Cuisinart Ice Cream, Yogurt and Sorbet Maker…..

I spent an hour on the Internet going over all the recipes that are out there, making only a very small dent! Since I was a first-timer I wanted to find an extremely EASY one to start with… the KEY LIME FROZEN YOGURT with only three ingredients fit that bill to a tee! I used the Fage – 0% non-fat Greek strained yogurt, which I believe is the reason for such a creamy, silky texture. If you use regular yogurt you may want to strain it first before using. I also used two small drops of green food coloring for just a touch of color. The result… simply amazing! I actually strained my arm from patting myself on the back!! Seriously, the taste and texture was spot on. This is a tart yogurt so you may want to sprinkle graham cracker crumbs on top for a contrast, though personally I loved the tangy lime flavor.  The perfect end to a big meal when you just want something simple to cleanse your palate.

The second creation really caught my eye…. Cappuccino-Toffee Crunch Ice Cream, from the Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Library Series. Any type of mocha cappuccino, iced coffees are always a hit with me, which is why this recipe started singing my name. I used Scharffen Berger 70% Cacao bittersweet dark chocolate to get the intense chocolate flavor. The recipe does not specifically tell you how to make the nut crunch, so I just used a combination of chocolate toffee pieces with slivered almonds. One suggestion was to use crushed up Almond Rocca.  There is Kahlua and Rum in this recipe so kids may not like or should NOT like the taste!  Personally, I love Kahlua so this tasted heavenly to me... go figure!

Add a few toffee bits....

My last ice cream creation was made with store bought ice cream and convinced me never to purchase a DQ Ice Cream cake again at their high prices! This was very easy to make and the result was sinfully delicious. The only thing I would change would be to add another layer of Oreo cookie crumble in the middle. I made this last week when my nieces were visiting from Dallas. Resembling a Butterfinger Blizzard Cake, it is a recipe which could be adapted to any flavor you prefer. You can find the recipe HERE

Thank you Suzy for a virtual fun time and I’m looking forward to checking out all the participants ice cream sensations. Make sure you all check out Suzy’s blog at Kitchen Bouquet to link up to some fantastic ice cream creations and presentations!

Thanks For Stopping By…

All three recipes sound wonderful, Barb, but I am a sucker for anything chocolate so the cappuccino toffee crunch really caught my eye along with the ice cream cake. I absolutely love Butterfinger candy bars (I always buy them for Halloween so I can eat any that are left!).

I'm glad you finally got an ice cream maker. I love knowing what's going into my ice cream!

holey moley, you were ambitious, and gave that machine a great workout! Love the ones you chose to make. and why couldn't you have made me a cake like that at the beginning of the month? That cake looks so fantastic!

Great post! I am doing what you did last year. If I don't ruin it first. A broiler and me?

Whoaaaa...you are making up for lost ice cream time! You chose some great ones. I LOVE key lime pie and how easy is that recipe? Lemon would be great too. I might have the ingredients for it too...now I just need to get rid of the gallons of ice cream I already have in my freezer. That Cappucino toffee crunch looks and sounds divine. I love Kahlua too, so know I'd love that. And OH MY GAWD, that cake is to die for. Butterfingers on my favorite. I need to make this soon. I could downsize for me and Randy. Love that you bought a red ice cream maker! Makes it extra fun. Thanks for joining me Barb for the ice Cream Social. Better get planning for next year!

I just made key lime pie ice cream yesterday from my sister's blog Red Couch Recipes. It was so refreshing. I sat and watched my one year old grandson eat a bowl and he yummed at every bite. Enjoy your ice cream maker.

Foley, You did an awesome job making 3 fabulous desserts. The key lime yogurt looks so refreshing. Great in this hot Iowa weather! I want to try your ice cream cake AND the yogurt - both look and sound very good. Nice vignette and stay cool!

Your ice cream cake will be my dessert of choice the next time my family comes to dinner! I know it will be a big hit. And the key lime yogurt looks delish. I couldn't get along without my ice cream freezer.

Barb, I LOVE your header picture ... FABULOUS!

Great looking ice cream machine. They make it so easy to make ice cream that they're dangerous to have around.

I love anything key lime, your yogurt is a must try. Not a cappacicno fan, but I live with one.

But what really catches my eye is your ice cream cake. I'd couldn't even take a guess at how many butterfinger blizzards that I've ordered in the last six months. I've added it to make "make soon" list. Great post!

Simply Fruit or fresh blueberries. It's my "ice cream".)I cannot wait to try this recipe. The others sound good, too.

The key lime sounds good but anything with chocolate screams the loudest to me! Your cappuccino toffee crunch sounds wonderful and I know several guys in the family that would really appreciate it if I made the ice cream cake. Bookmarking this page for sure! I love the red ice cream maker too :)

Thanks for visiting my blog. I have Mable Hoffman's ice cream book on my shelf but I have never made the lime frozen yoghurt. Lime is one of my very favorite flavors. I bet you will be making many more batches of ice cream with that fun new toy of yours!
