Creamy Lasagna

Ran across this recipe from Taste of Home, since I have never found a Lasagna recipe I really thought was great,  it deserved a try at least.

Now granted, it doesn't look the best, BUT the flavor was quite good.  ( I think I should have taken it out about 5-10 minutes earlier)  Still not "THE ONE" I'm looking for however!  Which I was lucky enough to have enjoyed over thirty years ago in Paderno del Grappa, a small town in northern Italy.  If only I would have been smart enough at that time to ask for the recipe!  This recipe doesn't call for the cottage cheese you see in every Lasagna recipe - which is why it is labeled a creamy lasagna.  After reading some of the reviews, I only use half of the sour cream listed.

The meat sauce was really good - I added some Italian Seasoning and also cooked the onion with the ground beef to get the sweetness of them.  Instead of using the standard lasagna noodles I always use I tried these instead....

These will be my lasagna noodles from now on..they are the perfect size, does not require the 'boiling' method as with the regular version, and they tasted just as good if not better!  And I am all for the ease of trying a new product... at least new to me!

The recipe, which you can find  HERE.. makes two 8x8 pans.  The other is now in the freezer to use another time, which by then I will have remembered to at least have some garlic bread on hand!

HAVE to share with you all a birthday gift that arrived today from one of my silly sweet and savory friends!!  Since she couldn't or wouldn't send me the gift she said she would  (evidently it was too hard to wrap) this was a consolation!!  Everyone needs a calendar for the new year....

I'm really looking forward to May of next year.....

Thanks for Stopping By ....

I have never seen a recipe for lasagna like that!
I make mine with ricotta and mozzarella, egg, grated cheese, garlic and parsley, home made sauce and noodles. Mike taught me how.
Lovely calendar...:)

I forgot to ask, was it really rich with the cream cheese ?
I also make meatballs and sausage and break it up for a layer in the lasagna, I usually make one without meat as some people like it that way.
Good you popped one in the freezer. Great for a cold night when you get home from work!

I love TOH. I tried the crock pot lasane recipe on Oprah last. It was Jerry Seinfeld's wife's recipe. I don't think it would have worked per her directions, but with a little alteration, it was pretty good and worked on one of those busy days! I could not slice one of the cupcakes! I barely had enough and they ate them all! :) :) ps--You and your calendar--May does look like a good month :)

Lasagna looks great! I love those Barilla noodles, they are really good, and really easy to use!
I figured 12 months would be a nicer gift than one :)
Kathleen is more interested in the meatballs...

I definitely don't like the cottage cheese curds in my lasagna so this is a recipe I would try as well. It looks good :)

I knew as soon as I scrolled where that calendar came from without you telling! I thought she was sending the real thing, LOL!

I'm happy to know about the lasagna noodles that don't need precooking. That saves one step in the process. This sauce sounds very rich but I know I would like the creamy texture and flavor it would give.

We'll want to see each calendar month as it goes by. Nice gift.

I haven't found 'the one' either. I rarely make lasagna because it's just so much for the two of us and hubby isn't a big lasagna fan anyway.

Love the calendar - LOL!

This recipe reminds me of the way lasagna is made in the part of France where I lived. They actually used a white sauce in between the layers instead of ricotta cheese and added gruyere instead of mozzerella! It sounds weird, but it was good! Love your little gift...and the Rocky Horror pics were a hoot! lol Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

I love those lasagna noodles! The dish looks fabulous...lasagna is sort of like chocolate chip cookies. We continue to search for the perfect recipe. Well, it's fun to keep trying, right?
