60th Birthday Party...Not Mine!!

Spent Friday night at a surprise 60th birthday party for my sister, Sue, in Des Moines.  How her two daughters were going to pull this one off was going to be a small miracle, since their Mom is what you call.."very inquisitive".

The party was being held at the Penoach Winery north of Adel.  Beautiful country setting with acres and acres of grapes....

Click on any photo to enlarge ...

The winery let us pick any of the grapes in the front row...tasty!

Inside the winery... Favorites were the Iowa Edelweiss and Brianna and Farmhouse White and Dallas County Apple, which would be great warmed!  I think you get the picture...all were good!

Sue's two daughters, Amy & Shelly sampling the wines with another sister, Bev before the festivities began...

Had to make the proverbial "60 Sucks" bouquet,  I didn't realize they make banana tootsie roll pops!

One of Sue's close friends getting a head start..notice the bottle on the ground, I don't think Diane shared either!!

Sue being escorted into the party by her grandson, Jarret.  She was definitely surprised

The birthday cake was very unique..a Coach purse, one that Sue has had her eye on for some time.
It was made by Sweet Celebrations Cakes, check out her website

Sue's hubby, Darrell, the two girls, SIL (that's son-in-law, Sue) Jerome and her two grankids Mackensie and Jarret surprised with the "real" thing!

The rest of the evening was enjoyed listening to a band, a barbecue stand was on hand, and I enjoyed my new favorite wine drink..the "Winerita".  You mix 1/2 bag of the Winerita mix with 1/2 bottle of wine of your choice, add ice and blend... FANTASTIC!!

Sue with two of her classmates who surprised her..Linda and Rita

Beautiful evening

The next morning I took a walk around Sue and Darrell's backyard to snap a few photos of the flowers and of Darrell's garden.  They make huge batches of salsa every year, so they need lots of tomatoes and peppers.  Lots of other goodies also...

Next door neighbor, Gracie

After a few hours shopping and lunch at Huhot Mongolian Grill (first time there) we headed home.

On the way home passed quite a few bikers heading to Sturgis....

NICE view from the back....

Short trip, but lots of fun!  As we were reminded the road does go BOTH ways, which is a not-so-subtle hint that we need to visit more often.  It's ALL Bev's fault!!!

Thanks For Stopping By....

I love that creative cake and then for them to follow it up with the real thing - too cool.

Have a wonderful week ahead.

HI! We just visited this winery over the 4th of July. It's one of my favorites in Iowa. We loved the Dallas County Apple wine! Can't wait to have it this Fall. Happy 60th to your sister, looks like such a fun party.

Wow, what a beautiful setting for a party. Keeping secrets like that is just about impossible in my family. Love that Coach cake (and the handbags too).

We were so glad to see that the roads coming South were not that bad! ;)

Glad you, Bev, and Jill will able to make it. It made the surprise even better.
