Last week I took my boys out to lunch at a Chinese place. Nick ordered the Crispy Walnut Shrimp, and of course I took a bite! So good, the sauce just made the dish, something I knew I had to try and recreate. Hit Google and YouTube to get as much info as possible, couldn't believe what a simple dish it was to make.
Luckily I had one last bag of shrimp left from my last purchase of seafood from Fabians Seafood truck that makes the rounds in the midwest straight from the Gulf. (Fantastic shrimp). I used the recipe from the CookBook People, it turned out perfectly. The taste was 98% 'spot-on', I will definitely be making this again. The leftovers were just as good the next day.
The only variation I had to make were the nuts...I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles that I had walnuts, they turned out to be pecans.....tasted just as great with the pecans!

Looks delicious, Barb...shrimp is my favorite seafood. Your rice looks perfect!
I think Kathleen gets a similar dish when she goes out for Chinese, too. Looks so good I wish I could have some. With a side of Benadryl :)
PS - I love the header picture :)
Yes, it is my favorite when I go to Chinese, and I worked out a recipe for home. I have to go look at what you did and see if it is similar.BUT did you see the price of walnuts and pecans ? We were in SM on and pecans are 7.50 and walnuts 4.50 a lb. I know that is cheap compared to the supermarket, but it has doubled! looks like the Grinch is stealing the cookies this year too! :(
Back to say that the sauce is totally different That is more like a cream sauce, and here it is served with a brown sweet sauce.
This looks fantastic and I am going to go to the recipe link next. Shrimp is a favorite and I know walnuts are the healthiest but I also prefer pecans :)
Thought id say hello while passing your blog by, and i hope you folks have a very nice weekend. We are maybe a little past fall peek colors for taking pictures of our tree's here in central Pennsylvania, but ill try anyway to go out one last time to snap some images. We used to have a Chinese restaurant nearby that had the best walnut shrimp with walnuts and broccoli that my hubby loved. I'd love to try this recipe to see if it comes close.
Fabian is coming for the last time next week - I'll have to stock up!
Looks good. I've never had anything quite like it. Will have to remember it for one day I want a shrimp fix lol.
